My not-so-skilled cleaning and smoothing of a pecan stick into a raw wood wand. The stick was ugly before I started, gray and black rough bark with several knobs and splintered ends but with a pocket knife and nail files (no really, I had no sandpaper) I ended up with this. Below I have a baby besom for altar use. Cedar twig and needles.

Pet Peeve: When people pronounce “Celtic” (in English) as “Sell-tick,” rather than “Keltic.”

Except both are correct.
“The English word originates in the 17th century, taken from the Celtæ of classical Latin. Until the mid 19th century, the sole pronunciation in English was /selt/ in keeping of the treatment of the letter ⟨c⟩ inherited by Middle English from Old French and Late Latin. Beginning in the mid 19th century, Celtic revivalist and nationalist publications advocated imitating the pronunciation of classical Latin in the time of Julius Caesar, when Latin Celtæ was pronounced /keltai/.”
So, yea, either works. Besides, my husband, who was born and raised in England, whose parents are also from England, and as far as they can trace back are from England on both sides, pronounces it “sell-tick”, so I think I’ll stick with that pronunciation.
